Moore Norman Technology Center has purchased just over 25 acres of the University North Park Corporate Center land from the Norman Economic Development Coalition. The property closed July 30.
The City, through NEDC, purchased 61.67 acres of land from the developers of University North Park as part of the original Project Plan and Operating Agreement for the Tax Increment Financing District. NEDC was sold this land at a discounted price of $1.25 per square foot.
In turn, NEDC “agreed to meet certain development requirements, which include constructing infrastructure improvements and entering into agreements for the sale or lease of lots to ‘qualified users’ that will provide quality jobs,” according to Operating Agreement documents.
In the amended Operating Agreement passed in Late 2019, UNP developers agreed to repurchase the land in Section 1 of the Corporate Center to relieve NEDC’s debt on the property. Deed records show MNTC purchased 25.2487 acres of the 26.7792 acres in Section 1.
An MNTC representative did confirm the purchase, but did not provide details of exact plans for the site at the time of publication.
In board meeting minutes obtained by Norman Development, MNTC states they plan “to start a Part 147 training class on our campus in August 2021 and open an Aerospace Training Facility at Max Westheimer Airport by August of 2025.”
Part 147 is an “educational facility certificated by the [Federal Aviation Administration] to train prospective aircraft mechanics for careers in the airline industry, in aviation maintenance facilities, and in commercial and General Aviation,” according to the FFA website.
Similar programs exist at other Career Tech schools across Oklahoma including Metro Technology Center in Oklahoma City.
Information will be updated as it becomes available.
