Whataburger, the San Antonio-based fast food burger chain, has filed plans for a location in southeast Norman. The location would be the second Norman location for the company.
Plans show the 2.4 acre tract north of the Highway 9 and South Classen Boulevard intersection, and directly north of the existing OnCue convenience store, will be split into 2 lots- the southern lot will be occupied by Whataburger while the northern lot will be reserved for future development. Preliminary plans show a similarly-styled quick service restaurant on the northern lot but no tenant information has been announced.
OnCue RE LLC has owned the 5.13 acre tract since purchasing it for $1.48 Million in 2016 and subsequently carving off the southern portion for an OnCue location, completed in 2020.
The proposed site plan shows the Whataburger building to be 3,300 square feet, have 2 drive thru lanes, and 44 parking spaces. Access is gained by the existing cross parcel access drive at the front of the property..
Whataburger is the latest in a slew of new developments along South Classen Boulevard in recent years. Starbucks, Aldi, and Wendy’s are a few existing tenants in the area with a Popeyes and Dunkin nearing completion.
Whataburger was founded in Texas in 1950 and has since expanded to over 900 locations in 17 states. Whataburger currently operates 38 locations in Oklahoma with 14 locations existing in the OKC Metro including one on West Main Street in Norman.
